How to Write Achievement-Based Resume Bullets (With Indian Examples)

Stop listing duties. Learn the formula for achievement-based resume bullets with real examples from Indian companies and roles.

The problem with duty-based bullets

Most Indian resumes read like job descriptions:

  • "Responsible for managing client accounts"
  • "Handled day-to-day operations of the marketing team"
  • "Worked on various projects using Java and Spring Boot"

These tell a recruiter what your job was, not what you achieved. Every person in that role had the same duties. Your bullets should show what made you different.

The achievement formula

Action verb + What you did + Measurable result

Examples:

  • ❌ "Managed social media accounts"
  • ✅ "Grew Instagram following from 2K to 15K in 6 months, generating 40% of inbound leads"
  • ❌ "Responsible for testing software"
  • ✅ "Automated 120+ regression tests using Selenium, reducing QA cycle from 3 days to 4 hours"
  • ❌ "Worked on data analysis projects"
  • ✅ "Built sales forecasting model in Python that improved quarterly prediction accuracy by 18%"

Indian-context examples

For IT services (TCS, Infosys, Wipro)

  • "Migrated 3 legacy .NET modules to microservices architecture, reducing deployment time by 60%"
  • "Led 5-member team for Citibank onshore delivery, achieving 99.2% SLA compliance over 12 months"

For startups (Razorpay, CRED, Zerodha)

  • "Designed and shipped payment retry logic that recovered ₹2.3 Cr in failed transactions monthly"
  • "Reduced API latency from 800ms to 120ms by implementing Redis caching and query optimization"

For consulting (McKinsey, BCG, Bain)

  • "Conducted market entry analysis for FMCG client, identifying ₹500 Cr addressable segment in Tier-2 cities"
  • "Built financial model for PE due diligence covering 5-year projections across 3 scenarios"

For freshers (internships and projects)

  • "Developed React dashboard for inventory management during internship, used by 15+ warehouse staff daily"
  • "Won Smart India Hackathon 2025 (team of 6) — built ML model predicting crop yield with 87% accuracy"

The "So what?" test

After writing each bullet, ask: "So what?" If the bullet does not answer that question, it needs a result.

  • "Implemented CI/CD pipeline" → So what? → "reducing deployment errors by 75% and enabling 3x daily releases"
  • "Organized college tech fest" → So what? → "with 500+ participants and ₹2L in sponsorship, 40% increase over previous year"
